The US CNM app landscape
The United States has one of the largest CNM communities in the world, but it's distributed unevenly across a vast geography. The apps that work well in New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, where Feeld has real user bases and OkCupid's CNM pool is dense, function differently in mid-size cities or rural areas where CNM-specific platforms may have almost no active users.
Understanding which platforms to prioritise in which contexts is the key practical question. This guide covers the US specifically, for the UK, see our UK guide; for queer-specific recommendations, see our queer CNM apps guide.
Major cities
In major US cities, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, Portland, Boston, Washington DC, the full range of CNM platforms functions meaningfully.
Feeld, primary CNM platform
Feeld is the right starting point for CNM-specific dating in any major US city. The active user base is large enough in these markets to function as a genuine dating pool rather than a thin list of profiles. CNM literacy is the baseline; relationship structure, desires, and non-monogamy are not surprises on Feeld.
OkCupid, CNM-aware mainstream
OkCupid has been the most CNM-friendly mainstream US app for longer than any other platform. The Bay Area and New York in particular have historically strong CNM communities on OkCupid. The relationship structure settings and question-matching system carry real signal in markets where enough users have filled them out honestly, which is true of most major US cities.
Hinge, mainstream volume
Hinge has no CNM features, but in major US cities the active pool is large enough that CNM-open users exist in meaningful numbers. Most useful for reaching people who are open to CNM but haven't sought out community platforms. Put your structure clearly in your bio; expect more filtering work than on Feeld or OkCupid.

Mid-size cities
Mid-size US cities, Denver, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nashville, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Columbus, have real CNM communities but thinner platform user bases. Feeld often functions poorly in these markets; OkCupid tends to hold up better because its user base is broader and its CNM subset, while smaller, is more reliably present.
OkCupid, best for mid-size markets
In cities where Feeld is thin, OkCupid is the most reliable CNM-aware platform. The combination of explicit relationship structure settings and a larger general user base means there's usually a functional CNM-open pool even when Feeld barely functions. It's not as efficient as Feeld in major cities, but it's a consistent performer across markets.
Hinge, mainstream backup
Hinge has strong coverage in mid-size US cities, often more active than OkCupid in absolute terms. For CNM users, it works best as a supplement: large mainstream pool, manual filtering required, but worth running.
Local community as primary strategy
In mid-size cities, in-person community often matters more than apps. Local poly meetups, Fetlife groups, and regional CNM events produce connections that apps may not, because the CNM community in these markets is concentrated in community spaces rather than distributed across dating platforms. Finding the local Meetup group is often more effective than optimising app strategy.
Conservative regions and smaller markets
In smaller cities, rural areas, and more conservative regions, much of the South, Midwest outside major cities, Mountain West outside Denver and Salt Lake, the CNM platform picture is thin. Feeld often has almost no active users; OkCupid's CNM pool is small; even Hinge's user base may be insufficient.
Practical strategies for these markets:
- OkCupid with patience. Even in thin markets, OkCupid's relationship structure filters surface whatever CNM presence exists. The pool is small but the signal is better than unfiltered mainstream apps.
- Reddit. r/polyamory and r/nonmonogamy have geographic subreddits and geographic threads that surface local connections apps won't. Posting a "anyone in [city]?" thread often gets responses from people not on dating apps at all.
- Fetlife. The Fetlife community is active in many markets where poly-specific apps aren't. The kink and BDSM community and the CNM community overlap significantly, and Fetlife groups exist in most US cities.
- Regional events. Many regions have annual CNM or poly events, camping gatherings, conferences, regional conventions, that concentrate the dispersed community. Finding these through national poly organisations is worth doing.
By relationship structure
Polyamory
Feeld first, OkCupid second, #Open third. See our #Open review. Feeld's community events and OkCupid's matching system are the most efficient routes to explicitly poly-identified connections.
Swinging and lifestyle
Kasidie and SLS are the primary lifestyle platforms in the US. Kasidie has the more modern product and better-maintained community; SLS has a larger legacy profile database. See our Kasidie vs SLS comparison.
Open relationships (couple-seeking)
Feeld with linked partner profiles is the most direct route. #Open has strong couple-friendly positioning. OkCupid's relationship structure settings allow couples to indicate open relationship status.
Kink-adjacent CNM
Feeld handles kink orientation within CNM. Fetlife is essential for the kink side regardless of relationship structure. For gay men, Grindr and Scruff are the primary surfaces.
