Chicago has a substantial and well-organised CNM community, one of the stronger mid-western scenes in the US, and significantly more active than cities of comparable size in more conservative regions. IML week impact
During IML weekend, Chicago's leather and kink community scene is at its annual peak. Hotels in the Gold Coast and Boystown area book out months in advance. If you're visiting Chicago to connect with the leather or kink community, IML weekend is the obvious timing, but book accommodation very early.
Winter
Chicago winters are severe. The community life of the CNM scene shifts indoors from November through March, and outdoor events are essentially absent. The IML and Pride events bookend the outdoor season in a way that gives the year a distinct rhythm.
